The weekend before the solar eclipse is here, and Bend and Central Oregon are swamped with visitors for the once-in-a-lifetime event. If you got here early, or if you’re a local and sticking around for the weekend, here are five things to do around Bend this weekend.
Shakespeare in the Park
August 18-19 | Bend
Watch one of Shakespeare’s tragic plays at Drake Park overlooking Mirror Pond. The annual Shakespeare in the Park will stage “Titus Andronicus” from Portland’s Northwest Classical Theater Company. The classic outdoor plays are always a highlight of the summer in Bend.
Munch & Movies
August 18 | Bend
Held at Compass Park in NorthWest Crossing, Munch & Movies is a great summer event for families. A large screen is set up in Compass Park for families to watch movies for free. This weekend, bring a blanket and pack a picnic dinner to watch “Trolls” under the stars.
August 18-19 | Redmond
This is the inaugural event for Redmond Brewfest, where local and regional brews will be on tap. The two-day event will take place at American Legion Park in downtown Redmond. All ages are welcome until 7 p.m., but the party continues into the night with live music from Hillstomp and Larry and his Flask.
August 18-27 | Bend
The classic book by Roald Dahl is brought the stage with the musical version of Willy Wonka. Families will enjoy this production of the beloved book. Produced by the local company Thoroughly Modern Productions, “Willy Wonka” will be delight for families and kids at the Tower Theatre.
Sisters Wild West Show
August 19-20 | Sisters
Take a step back in time at the Sisters Wild West Show. The two-day event is now in its fifth year and features Western skits and demonstrations that the whole family can enjoy. There will be food and drinks as well as arts and crafts throughout the weekend. On Saturday, the festivities conclude with a old-school country western dance.
