The first weekend of the year brings First Friday in downtown Bend, live music, a pub run, and a free pop-up event for kids and families from the Children’s Museum of Central Oregon.

Live Music
January 4 | McMenamins Old St. Francis School and Riverhouse on the Deschutes, Bend
If you’re looking for live music this week, head to McMenamins for a show from Oregon Fryar. The music is free and begins at 7 p.m. Riverhouse on the Deschutes also hosts its weekly live jazz music on Thursday. This week will feature vocalist Lisa Dae, pianist and guitarist Gordy Michael and bassist Peter Berger.
First Friday
January 5 | Downtown Bend
It’s the first First Friday of the new year. Head to downtown Bend Friday evening to find live music, refreshments and local art on display. Local businesses will stay open late for shopping and strolling through downtown Bend. Even in the cold weather, you’ll find the community out on the town for this monthly event.
Children’s Museum Pop-Up
January 6 | Riverhouse on the Deschutes, Bend
The Children’s Museum of Central Oregon, a nonprofit in the early stages of creating a permanent science and art discovery center in Bend, will host a series of free Pop-Up Museum events designed for kids and families. On Saturday, January 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the pop-up will be at the Riverhouse on the Deschutes with interactive art and science exhibits for kids and families on the theme “Making Things Go.”
Ski/Snowshoe With A Ranger
January 6-7 | Mt. Bachelor, Bend
Discover Your Forest, a nonprofit organization that connects people with the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests, hosts snowsport events throughout the season. Beginning this weekend, you can join the Ski With a Ranger program at Mt. Bachelor. If you aren’t skiing, you can also join one of the Snowshoe With a Ranger programs that take place every day. The events are a great way to learn more about the mountain and forests while enjoying the snow.
Pub Run
January 8 | Footzone Bend
Join the first Pub Run of 2018 and beat the Monday blues at Footzone in Bend. The run starts at 5:30 p.m., and all levels are welcome to join the jog to Sunriver Brewing on Galveston, where a complimentary beer awaits.
