SUMMARY:Sit Spot Community Gathering & Meditation: A Mini Forest Bathing Experience
DESCRIPTION:Looking for a mid-week pick me up? Join Mindy Lockhart of Rooted Presence for a short but powerful meditation and nature immersion to help relieve stress and soothe the nervous system. \nThis experience focuses on coming together and enjoying the peace of the forest. It includes a brief sensory opening meditation\, 20 to 30 minutes to enjoy a solo “sit spot” invitation\, which is a core forest bathing invitation for reducing stress and reconnecting to nature\, and a closing community circle with an opportunity to share what we each noticed in our unique experience. \nForest bathing is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku\, which translates to “forest bath” and just means to take in the atmosphere of the forest through our senses (leave your swimsuit at home…no literal bathing required!). It is a practice of spending time in forested areas for the purpose of enhancing health\, wellness\, and happiness and remembering our connection to nature and each other. \nDecades of studies have discovered a wide range of health benefits associated with this practice\, including stress relief\, better sleep\, lowered blood pressure and inflammation\, and improved immunity. \nLearn more at www.rootedpresence.com

SUMMARY:"Gardening in the Mind’s Imagination” digital media by Dorothy Freudenberg
DESCRIPTION:Dorothy Freudenberg’s September exhibit\, “Gardening in the Mind’s Imagination”\, opening September 1\, from 3-7pm during the Old Mill District’s First Friday Gallery Walk\, features digital media exploding with color and nuance. \nWhen Dorothy Freudenberg arrived in Bend many years ago\, her garden became the focal point of her burgeoning photography experiences. Eventually she expanded the concept interpreting the whole planet as a huge\, interconnected garden—one that supports all of life. From using only the camera lens to create images\, she moved into exploring digital media which lends itself particularly well to the development of metaphorical creations that have their basis in the real world\, but then transcend the literal. On her almost daily early morning walks (often in the Old Mill District\, along the river paths) Dorothy photographs nature as it is\, creating stunning ethereal images of patterns and textures of flora and fauna often overlooked as mundane. Then\, taking bits and pieces from all of these photographs\, she creates images digitally that have their basis in the real world\, but become pure emotion and imagination. \n“While I love to photograph nature as it is\, I also cannot limit my imagination to simply accept this as the final means of expression. Nature is the inspiration\, the mind is the means to embellish and find sublime pleasure in the imagination’s play.” \nTumalo Art Co. is an artist-run gallery in the heart of the Old Mill District open 7 days a week. tumaloartco.com; 541-385-9144.

SUMMARY:Forest Bathing: International Forest Bathing Day
DESCRIPTION:International Forest Bathing Day is where we collectively experience the medicine of the forest\, with guided forest bathing walks happening all over the globe. \nWitness the magical transformation your mind\, body\, and spirit will move through as the mind takes a well-earned break\, the body gets some well-deserved attention and rejuvenation\, and spirit gets to connect with the beautiful bigger picture and serves up a dose of wonder\, fascination\, gratitude\, and connection. \nA forest bathing walk starts off with a guided meditation deepening into each of the senses\, and then you’ll be led through a series of invitations that offer the opportunity for deeper relaxation and connection with ourselves and the living world. We will come together for optional sharing and close the experience with wildcrafted tea. \nForest bathing is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku\, which translates to “forest bath” and just means to take in the atmosphere of the forest (leave your swimsuit at home…no literal bathing required!). It is a practice of spending time in natural areas for the purpose of enhancing health\, wellness\, and happiness\, and remembering our connection to nature and each other. \nDecades of studies have discovered a wide range of health benefits associated with this practice\, including stress relief\, better sleep\, lowered blood pressure and inflammation\, and improved immunity. \nPlease visit www.rootedpresence.com to learn more.

SUMMARY:IN A LANDSCAPE: Fort Rock State Park
DESCRIPTION:Hunter Noack’s IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild™ \n\n\n2:00 PM: Fort Rock Museum opens (a ticket to the museum is included with your ticket purchase) \n\n\n\n\n4:00 PM: Piano Concert begins \n\n\n\n\n6:00 PM: Pie Social and Dance at Fort Rock Grange featuring live music by Wampus Cat \nCOST: $40 \nGet your ticket here. \nTowering above the sagebrush desert\, the Fort Rock caldera was once a volcano that erupted under an inland sea. Waves lapping against the rock created caves that housed a shoe ‘factory’ where anthropologist Luther Cressman discovered an ancient collection of sandals in 1938. Their ages range from about 10\,400 to 9\,100 years old\, making Fort Rock sandals the oldest directly-dated footwear in the world. \nFor the concert\, be prepared to hike up rocky terrain with your chairs\, picnic\, and water to the site\, where you will sit amidst sage brush and desert grasses\, and be surrounded by towering basalt cliffs. This area can be hot and dusty so please come prepared to be in the high desert’s intense sunshine. \nYour ticket purchase includes admission to the Museum\, the concert\, and the Pie Social and Dance. \n\n\nAbout In A Landscape\nFounded in 2016 by classical pianist Hunter Noack\, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit outdoor concert series where  America’s most stunning landscapes replace the traditional concert hall.  A 9-foot Steinway grand piano travels on a flatbed trailer to State and National Parks\, urban greenspaces\, working ranches\, farms\, and  historical sites for classical music concerts that connect people with each landscape. \nTo meet the acoustical challenges of performing in the wild\,  music is transmitted to concert-goers via wireless headphones. No longer confined to seats\, audiences explore the landscape\, wander through secret glens\, lie in sunny meadows\, and roam old growth forests.
