SUMMARY:Rick Bartow: Things You Know But Cannot Explain
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition featuring the vivid and engaging drawings\, paintings\, prints and sculptures of Oregon artist Rick Bartow (1946-2016) will open at the High Desert Museum on Saturday\, January 26\, 2019. Rick Bartow: Things You Know But Cannot Explain is an extensive retrospective of nearly four decades of Bartow’s work\, an exploration of his extraordinary life and complex identity. \nHe was born in Newport\, Oregon\, where his family’s roots run deep\, and grew up with close ties to the Siletz community. After studying art education at what is now Western Oregon University\, he was drafted into the Army and deployed to Vietnam. The trauma he witnessed manifested as what we now identify as post-traumatic stress disorder and art became his path from the past to the present\, a map back to himself and to the new self he would become.

SUMMARY:Dutch Oven Night Cooking Clinic
DESCRIPTION:  \nHeat up with Tumalo Creek this winter during the annual Dutch Oven Night! \nAt face value a Dutch oven is a thick-walled\, usually cast iron cooking pot with a tight-fitting lid. It could be likened to a campfire slow cooker. During their innumerable river rafting and kayaking trips\, Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe staff have developed a myriad of culinary methods and recipes designed specifically for Dutch ovens. Pineapple upside-down cake\, apple pie\, chicken and dumplings\, eggplant parmesan\, roasted veggies and Owyhee bacon loaded cornbread are just some of the dishes sampled at past Dutch oven cooking clinics. Join Tumalo Creek for an evening of tasty exploration and share in the possibilities of campfire cooking on a river trip\, during a campout or in your own backyard. \nAt the workshop we’ll answer questions like: \n-How do you arrange the coals? \n-How do you get the meal to cook all the way through\, without burning the outside? \nWe’ll cook up some of our favorite meals on the back deck\, and then share our secrets as we sample the meals and desserts inside the shop. \nCost: $8.00\, click Book Now button to purchase tickets

SUMMARY:An Evening with Les Brown
DESCRIPTION:A Tiny Sliver Of What You’re Going To Learn \nHow To Get Unstuck: If you feel like you just can’t get up\, like life’s got you knocked down\, like no matter what you do you can’t make progress\, or like every time you take two steps ahead you get yanked back three\, You’ve Gotta Be Hungry will help you get unstuck once and for all. \nTruth is\, you have absolute greatness in you – but if you don’t know how to harness it\, to embrace it and manifest it\, it does little for you. I’ll help you give that greatness life\, so you can live your best life. \nHow To Overcome Adversity: Listen\, this thing called life ain’t easy. Truth is\, you’ve gotta be tough. Life is going to come at you with everything it’s got\, and if you don’t have the skills necessary to overcome those obstacles you’ll find yourself laying on your back more often than standing tall. \nYou’ve Gotta Be Hungry is going to empower you to overcome any obstacle that comes your way\, and Les Brown is going to do it by showing you how he’s gone from the very lowest of lows to the highest paid motivational speaker. \nIn his presentation\, you can learn the skills needed to shortcut your success so you can achieve more\, faster. \nHow To Stop Living Your Fears: Far too many people go through life living far below their means because they are living their fears. They are letting their fears call the shots\, and life is passing them by. Les will provide you with the drive\, skills and inspiration to crush through your fears and take charge of your life. \nLet me ask you a simple question… How much further along in life would you be if you were free of the chains of fear holding you back? \nHow To Start Living Your Dream: Are you living the life of your dreams? When you were a child\, dreaming of life as a “grown up”\, is the life you’re living the one you imagined? Les will empower you to take charge of your life and start living your dreams. This one key principle can be the turning point in your life. \nLes Brown Will Motivate\, Inspire And Empower You \nTo Live Your Dreams And Unlock Your Greatness \nIf there’s one thing I know\, it’s that not everyone has the same opportunities. \nTruth is\, a lot of people don’t get to start off on the right foot. Maybe they’re born into poverty. Anguish. Abuse. Loneliness. Crime. And a million other challenges that they just didn’t deserve. \nBut here’s the thing – we don’t get to choose how we come into this world\, but we get to choose how we come out. \nAnd one of the best ways I know of coming out on top\, of raising the bar and taking your life to the next level\, is following in the foot steps of someone who’s done what you’re trying to do. \nSuccess leaves clues. \nIf you follow in the footsteps who’s achieved what you’re trying to achieve\, you’re likely to end up at the same place. \nAnd I want to offer you a chance to follow in my footsteps. I want to give you my best stuff\, so that no matter where you started off in this world you can end better off\, on a higher level\, living your dreams. \nListen\, tough times are going to come\, but they aren’t here to stay\, they are here to pass! \nI want you to join me in LA so I can personally mentor you to greatness\, along with my guest speaker and friend Nick Vujicic. \nYou have something special\, you have greatness in you!

SUMMARY:March Opening at Tumalo Art Co.
DESCRIPTION:Opening March 1\, from 4-8pm\, Tumalo Art Co. presents a group show simply called “Water”. Many of our artists paint water from all perspectives—either as the main focus or as some aspect of the landscape. One of our worlds most important elements of life\, water is also one of the most artistically inspiring and challenging to capture. \nRiver guide and rafter David Kinker has recently been re-inspired by his month-long trip through the Grand Canyon and presents new paintings of that monumental trip. Susan Luckey Higdon paints the Deschutes River just below the 1st Street Rapids. Janice Druian’s interprets a quiet scene of a Sierra Lake reflecting tall peaks at sunset. Sarah B Hansen captures the metallic glow of threads of water through a mountain meadow\, while Helen Brown’s watercolor batik describes an ocean bay. These are only a few of the artworks represented in the show. \nTumalo Art Co. is an artist-run gallery in the heart of the Old Mill District\, open everyday. www.tumaloartco.com\, 541-385-9144.
