SUMMARY:Dee McBrien-Lee\, presents "Vertical Interlude" at Tumalo Art Co. in September
DESCRIPTION:Drawn to the ever-changing show-offs in her backyard garden and the beauty of the forest sentinels when they have shed their seasonal colors\, Dee McBrien-Lee was inspired to create these newest works in her series “Vertical Interlude”\, opening September 4\, from 4-7pm at Tumalo Art Co.\n“2020 has been a year fraught with chaos. No matter who you are\, current events have touched each and every one of us in some way. In trying to navigate through everything it was important to me to be able to set aside what was going on and find focus in the beauty and gifts that surround us\,” says Dee. “I wanted to create works that would bring joy\, perhaps solace and comfort to the viewer.” In doing so she decided to work in a more relatable style\, but not completely abandon\, her abstract leanings by looking for patterns in nature. Inspired by the simplicity and meditative quality of vertical line\, it became her focus.\nPreferring bold color and line combined with many layers to create the finished pieces Dee seeks to create a mood or draw a reaction with her work and strives to create a dialog amongst her viewers.\nTumalo Art Co. is an artist-run gallery in the heart of the Old Mill District\, open 7 days a week. www.tumaloartco.com; 541-385-9144.

SUMMARY:New hand-blown glass by Nancy Becker for August
DESCRIPTION:Nancy Becker’s hand-blown glass in her August show at Tumalo Art Co. represents tuning into Central Oregon’s environment after a five-year stay in the Southern United States. ”Songs on the Wind” opens Friday\, August 7\, from 4-7pm following Covid-safe requirements. \n“I notice there are little songs being sung throughout the fabric of nature. So my pieces are about those songs. Is the song in the wind? What are we as individuals singing right now?” \nNancy’s palette for these new glass creations represent high desert color\, and many employ clear glass giving them luminous transparency. The spirals inherent in each glass shape is meant to communicate the revealing that occurs in nature\, each moment unique and unfolding. Also included in the show will be several new pieces from her “Dance of the Flower Fairies” series \nTumalo Art Co. is an artist-run gallery\, open 7 days a week in the heart of the Old Mill District. tumaloartco.com; 541-385-9144.

SUMMARY:Totem Power—Katherine Taylor's oils open July 3
DESCRIPTION:“Totem Power”\, a collection of paintings honoring Katherine Taylor’s totem power animals\, opens July 3 from 4-7pm\, at Tumalo Art Co. in the heart of the Old Mill District. \nThe Native American term “totem” means a sacred being or object\, often symbolized by an animal that is used to guide an individual. Animals that repeatedly show up in a person’s dreams or real-life interactions offer that individual wisdom qualities that are unique to that creature. \nThe choice of the “totem” theme for Katherine’s July show turned out to be serendipitous as a global pandemic unfolded throughout the world . “As I painted each animal over these last three months\, I drew on the powerful spirit qualities of them to help me cope.” For instance\, the totem quality of a lion is said to be courage and strength. The lamb\, innocence and forgiveness. A butterfly\, grace and the ability to accept change. Each painting became a calming emblem for Katherine as she created it. \nTumalo Art Co. is an artist-run gallery in Bend’s Old Mill District open 10-7\, Monday-Saturday and Sunday\, 11-6. tumaloartco.com; 541-385-9144

SUMMARY:June Show at Tumalo Art Co.—Danae Bennett-Miller\, sculpture and original prints
DESCRIPTION:Danae Bennett-Miller’s exhibit\, “Feathers & Fur”\, opens June 5\, from 4-7pm. The show includes a large sculpture of a deer\, medium and small bird sculptures and new monoprints. All are one-of-a kind. Danae’s new work is about connecting with feelings past and present. “Animals have supported my emotional well being\, and energized my artwork for 40 years.” \nThe impetus to create bird sculptures has come from Danae’s time in isolation on her ranch\, where she observes the activities of birds and animals daily. “the birds symbolize freedom to me. They can fly wherever they want to and don’t know any borders. Their softness\, color and movement inspire me to capture that feeling in bronze with iridescent patinas.” \nTumalo Art Co.’s June opening will follow the “new-normal” requirements—limiting the number of visitors in the gallery at one time\, sanitizing often and requesting that everyone wear masks. Our first opening in over two months\, we are excited to welcome our patrons back and are open in June regular hours\, 10-7 Mon-Sat and 11-6 on Sun. tumaloartco.com; art@tumaloartco.com.
