SUMMARY:Moving into the Duplex: A Formal Invention Poetry Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Formal Invention Masterclass on Tuesday\, March 19\, 2024 at Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture! \nHave you always wanted to invent your own poetic form but don’t know where to start? Featuring the duplex\, the golden shovel\, the sonnenizio\, and the American sentence acrostic—all forms invented by contemporary living poets–this masterclass breaks down the process of formal invention and reveals the process behind the product. Beginning with the craft fundamentals of prosody\, we’ll examine in detail each of these forms and learn how to write them. In the final third of the class\, we’ll generate a new form as a group that we can then take home and practice before distributing to the wider world of poetry. Every poet will leave with the drafts of four formal poems\, the group form\, and the seeds of knowledge for growing their own individual forms. \nThis event is free and open to the public. Limited to 15 attendees so registration is required. \nAbout the Instructor:\nThe winner of the 2022 Cider Press Review Book Award for Inheritance with a High Error Rate (January 2024)\, Jen Karetnick is the author of 20 additional books. SUMMARY:Wander Book Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Explore memory maps through mark making and ink wash on paper and transform them into a unique bound book (to use for wander and wonder). \nCreate a Wander (or Wonder) Book with new approaches to composition using crafted mark-makers\, color washes and learn introductory skills in the art of bookbinding. Each student will leave with their own expression of their artistic self in the medium of a bound book. Folios will be constructed with the decorated French cotton rag paper and the binding will be completed with Irish wax linen\, and their choice of either leather or rag paper for a cover. Here we will acknowledge the structure of the book as a visual and conceptual piece which can be carried forward or thus simply left as the artistic expression created. \nThe Instructors: \nKit Stafford enjoys bringing a gathering of diverse voices to the table to help represent how the arts are vital to our community for education\, as an economic driver and for communication and celebration. Former Americana teacher in the Sisters School District and Director of Arts Discovery for underserved young people\, Kit\, a practicing artist in textiles\, sculpture\, metalsmithing\, art books and poetry\, continues to take joy in connecting people through the arts. Her experience in working with Roundhouse Foundation\, Caldera\, Oregon Dance Council\, Artist in Residency programs\, Regional Arts Councils\, events\, art curation and a lifetime steeped in the arts exhibits a spectrum of how the language of art is one that brings us together. \nDiana Philips- After establishing herself as a paper enthusiast and completing a traditional apprenticeship with a French master binder\, Diana Phillips\, opened Two Hands Paperie in Boulder\, Colorado.
