SUMMARY:"The Shape of Water"—fine art photographs by Bruce Jackson in August
DESCRIPTION:“The Shape of Water”\, fine art photographs by Bruce Jackson\, opens August 6\, at Tumalo Art Co. from 3-7 pm for the Old Mill District’s First Friday Art Walk. Jackson invites you to look below the surface and imagine the role water plays in shaping the subject matter of each photograph. Most of us relate to water as an essential element for survival\, rarely considering how water has effects nearly everything we encounter in life. Join us in witnessing water in a whole new context. \nSince his iconic photograph and subsequent sold-out poster of Mt. Bachelor over 25 years ago\, Bruce’s finely tuned eye for the eloquence of nature\, and patience in getting the perfect shot\, has made him one of Oregon’s most loved photographers. From natures abstractions to the panoramic landscape in all of its majesty\, he finds the precise moment to capture the essence of his subjects and has won numerous awards for his stunning photographs. \nTumalo Art Co. is a an artist-run gallery in the heart of the Old Mill District open 7 days a week. tumaloartco.com; 541-385-9144.

SUMMARY:June Exhibit—Journeys in Nature\, art by Sarah B Hansen
DESCRIPTION:Our June show\, “Journeys in Nature\, An Artist’s Exploration of Pacific NW Trails”\, presents contemporary landscape artist Sarah B Hansen’s latest exploration into her decades-long Northwest hiking journeys. Meet the artist Friday June 4\, from 4-7pm. \nInspired by her Pacific Northwest hikes\, and witnessing the increasing challenges of human impact on wilderness areas\, Hansen has created this selection of mixed media paintings focusing both on what it means to experience the unaffected wilderness\, and how our presence in those spaces alters its habitat. Working on cradled boards with water media\, collaged textures and handwriting\, Hansen creates art that leaves much to the imagination and gives a strong feeling of place. Many of her pieces are large\, capturing the monumental space in the landscape. Her mantra is\, “save wild spaces\, pick up your refuse\, tread lightly\, and speak quietly”.\nTumalo Art Co. is an artist-run gallery in the heart of the Old Mill District\, open 7 days a week. 541-385-9144; tumaloartco.com.

SUMMARY:May Exhibit at Tumalo Art Co.—"Earth+Feather" by Shelli Walters

SUMMARY:Printmaker Adell Shetterly with "Impressions" in November
DESCRIPTION:Printmaker Adell Shetterly’s exhibit of hand-pulled prints\, “Impressions”\, opens at Tumalo Art Co. November 6\, from 4-7pm. The show highlights a variety of print processes from monotype\, monoprint\, collagraph and combinations of print forms and media. From memories and moments in time\, Adell’s images integrate abstraction\, withcolor and texture inspired by natural environs. \nMuch like the first impressions we make on others upon a first meeting\, the first impressions made from a plate as it contacts a sheet of paper pulled through a press deeply influence the direction of the printmaker. Each print technique creates unique effects that cannot be created by any other means. \n“Many of my works are inspired by encounters with nature and recorded with photography to be brought forth at a later date to explore the question\, ‘What if’? What if I focus on just this piece in the photo? What if I quiet my mind and remember the sense of place or feeling from this photo?”\, explains Adell. “I am fascinated by printmaking as an art form; there are so many permutations. Design possibilities\, techniques and variations in each technique provide hours of creative exploration. Every new work reinforces what I do know and it also instigates excitement for what comes next. Printmaking is innovative\, creative and wide open to interpretation. It has its own lexicon and l hope\, lasting impressions.” \nTumalo Art Co is an artist-run gallery in the heart of the Old Mill District\, open 7 days a week. tumaloartco.com; 541-385-9144.
