Exhibition Opening: Cosmic Microscapes: Seeing Into Rocks from Oregon & Space

This exhibition marries art and science to reveal
the inner beauty of rocks from around the solar
system, highlighting the striking resemblance
between cooled lava found in the Oregon
High Desert and magmatic specimens from
other planets. Small pieces of the Moon, Mars
and asteroids were sliced paper-thin and
photographed at staggeringly high resolution
to produce prints of unprecedented scale. Such enormously
detailed images create a deeply immersive visual experience.

Cosmic Microscapes is a collaboration between Seattle photographer Neil H.
Buckland and University of Washington scientist Dr. Tony Irving.
