2024 SELCO Pole Pedal Paddle

May 18

2024 SELCO Pole Pedal Paddle

Online registration is open for the country’s top multi-multisport event – the 44th annual SELCO Pole Pedal Paddle. The event, which has been contested each May in Bend since 1976, is scheduled for May 18, 2024. Participants can register as individuals, pairs, or teams at PPPBend.com.

The SELCO Pole Pedal Paddle is a Central Oregon tradition that annually attracts thousands of competitors from throughout the Northwest and beyond. The multi-sport race includes alpine and cross-country skiing, cycling, running, and kayaking and stretches from the slopes of Mt. Bachelor to the finish line in Bend’s Hayden Homes Amphitheater. Athletes of all ages compete in divisions ranging in skill level from novice to elite, and either individually or as part of a team. The SELCO Pole Pedal Paddle is the largest annual fundraiser for MBSEF and allows us to provide life-changing athletic programs to over 800 athletes annually.

The Individual Pole Pedal Paddle Legs

Alpine leg: The Alpine leg starts at the top of Mt. Bachelor’s Red Chair where skiers have to sprint 200 feet uphill without their skis, then find where they put their skis, put them on and finally ski down the LeeWay run. The course is a beginner/intermediate run.

Nordic leg: The Cross Country leg is an 8 km skate ski. The exchange to cycling takes place in front of the Nordic Lodge parking area.

Bike leg: The Bike leg is a 22 mile beautiful ride into Bend along Century Drive. The ride finishes at the Athletic Club of Bend.

Run leg: The Run leg is a 5 mile course that includes dirt, pavement, pavers and travels over and under multiple bridges that cross the Deschutes River. The run course finishes at the Riverbend Park in Bend.

Racers who are 12 and registered in the following categories, are given the option to run the shortened course: Individuals – 12 & Under, Pairs – 12 & Under, Teams – 12 & Under, and Family Teams where the running racer is 12 or under.

Canoe/Kayak/SUP leg: The Canoe/Kayak/SUP leg begins at Riverbend Park. Boaters will paddle down stream from the put-in point, for a about .5 miles, paddling under several bridges and through the Old Mill. At the turn around point, boaters will paddle upstream for about 1 mile until they reach the NEW take-out point at Farewell Bend Park, on the opposite side of the river.

Sprint leg: The Sprint leg starts at Farewell Bend Park, crosses over the bridge that connects Farewell to Riverbend, and finishes in our NEW finish area in Riverbend park. The distance of the sprint is about .4 miles. Read more about the the race description here.

The SELCO Pole Pedal Paddle is produced by and for the benefit of the Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation, which creates opportunities through competitive snow sports programs to support athletes in achieving their individual athletic, academic, and personal goals.
