September Exhibit at Tumalo Art CO.—”Body Language” Dee McBrien-Lee
Dee McBrien-Lee’s exhibit, “Body Language”, opens during the Old Mill District First Friday Gallery Walk, September 4 from 3-7pm. Focusing on abstracted figures and the way they interact with each other, each painting tells a story which is up to the viewer to interpret. In many cases the title gives a clue. Dee thrives on the challenge that creating something without boundaries or clear guidelines offers her imagination. Most recently she has developed a series combining abstract elements incorporating the human figure. Beginning with large areas of color, line and texture, Dee seeks to discover her subjects as she goes through her process. Often just a single body part or suggestion of attitude in a mark or line will be the beginning of a figure. The other figures follow—sometimes intentionally, sometimes through discovery. Dee prefers not to use set patterns as she works, but allows every painting to speak to her as it develops a life and story all its own.
