Wander Book Making Workshop

February 8 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

$90.00

Explore memory maps through mark making and ink wash on paper and transform them into a unique bound book (to use for wander and wonder).

Create a Wander (or Wonder) Book with new approaches to composition using crafted mark-makers, color washes and learn introductory skills in the art of bookbinding. Each student will leave with their own expression of their artistic self in the medium of a bound book. Folios will be constructed with the decorated French cotton rag paper and the binding will be completed with Irish wax linen, and their choice of either leather or rag paper for a cover. Here we will acknowledge the structure of the book as a visual and conceptual piece which can be carried forward or thus simply left as the artistic expression created.

The Instructors:

Kit Stafford enjoys bringing a gathering of diverse voices to the table to help represent how the arts are vital to our community for education, as an economic driver and for communication and celebration. Former Americana teacher in the Sisters School District and Director of Arts Discovery for underserved young people, Kit, a practicing artist in textiles, sculpture, metalsmithing, art books and poetry, continues to take joy in connecting people through the arts. Her experience in working with Roundhouse Foundation, Caldera, Oregon Dance Council, Artist in Residency programs, Regional Arts Councils, events, art curation and a lifetime steeped in the arts exhibits a spectrum of how the language of art is one that brings us together.

Diana Philips- After establishing herself as a paper enthusiast and completing a traditional apprenticeship with a French master binder, Diana Phillips, opened Two Hands Paperie in Boulder, Colorado. As a collector of textures, color palettes, words, and discarded crafts, she continues to enjoy fabricating ancient book structures and collaborative endeavors with others in the creative realm.
