OSU-Cascades Science Pub: Footwear Science Can Help Runners Stay Injury-Free

With more running shoe options available than ever, how do you know what shoe is best for you? Whether selecting shoes for training or racing, on road or on trail, Dr. JJ Hannigan, an assistant professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program and director of the FORCE biomechanics lab at OSU-Cascades, breaks down the latest science on how footwear affects running biomechanics and injury risk. Backed by research from the OSU-Cascades FORCE Lab, this talk reveals how the right shoes can help runners stay healthy and prevent injury.

The First Freeze Race Up Pilot Butte

THE CHALLENGE
Conquer the infamous Pilot Butte with a twist: every lap must be faster than the one before it.
Push too hard at the beginning, and you’ll find yourself unable to beat your time on subsequent laps—resulting in disqualification and a spot on the sidelines. Only those with ice in their veins will prevail. The road will be closed to cars but races are required to follow all rules of the road.

THE CATEGORIES
Bike: 6 laps of pure strategy
Team Bike: 6 laps with up to 6 racers
Run: 3 laps, getting harder
Team Run: 3 Laps with up to 3 racers

Sunriver Oktoberfest

The 2025 Sunriver Oktoberfest is Sept. 26 and Sept. 27, marking a new tradition for the Sunriver community in Central Oregon. This inaugural event is part of a broader year of celebrations in Sunriver and will offer a festive atmosphere with a German theme.
