Summit and Bend High School Theatre Present: Head Over Heels

Summit High School and Bend Senior High School unite for their first-ever joint production with Head Over Heels, the irresistible jukebox musical set to the chart-topping hits of The Go-Go’s. Inspired by Philip Sidney’s The Countess of Pembroke’s Arcadia, the show follows the royal court of Arcadia after a prophecy from the Oracle of Delphi warns that the kingdom will lose its “Beat,” the life force that sustains its prosperity. Determined to outwit fate, King Basilius leads the court on a wild journey through the woods where mistaken identities, unexpected romance, and gender-expansive disguises turn tradition on its head. The result is a vibrant celebration of authenticity, acceptance, and love.

Featuring high-energy vocals, a live rock band, and Ancient Greece-meets-the-1980s design, this production invites audiences to groove along to iconic songs including “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation,” Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven Is a Place on Earth,” and “Mad About You.”

Fresh off a sold-out Broadway run, Stereophonic takes audiences inside a 1976 recording studio, where a rock band on the verge of fame wrestles with creativity, chaos, and each other. With original music by Will Butler of Arcade Fire, it’s a sharp, funny, and surprisingly emotional look at what it takes to make something great.

WE WILL ROCK YOU tells the story of a globalized future without musical instruments. A handful of rock rebels, the Bohemians, fight against the all-powerful Globalsoft company and its boss, the Killer Queen; they fight for freedom, individuality and the rebirth of the age of rock. Scaramouche and Galileo, two young outsiders, cannot come to terms with the bleak conformist reality. They join the Bohemians and embark on the search to find the unlimited power of freedom, love and Rock!

The idea for the musical came after a meeting between the actor Robert De Niro with musicians Brian May and Roger Taylor, in Venice in 1996. De Niro’s daughter was a big fan of the Queen and the actor asked if the legends of rock had never thought of creating a musical based on their songs. That was the beginning of everything.

Since 2002 over 15 million theatre goers in 17 countries have been thrilled by this awe-inspiring production which is based on the songs of Queen with a book by Ben Elton (The Young Ones, Blackadder, Popcorn). Elton fashioned this hilarious futurist comedy around more than 24 of Queen’s biggest hit songs including We Are The Champions, Radio Ga Ga, I Want To Break Free, Somebody To Love, Killer Queen, Don’t Stop Me Now, Under Pressure, Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites The Dust and of course, We Will Rock You.
