OSU-Cascades Speaker: Eboné Bell on Leadership and Inclusion

Join us for a morning with LEAD Summit’s keynote speaker, Eboné Bell.

Regardless of who we are or where we come from, each one of us possesses the potential to be a leader. Yes, you!

From starting as a campus leader to spearheading her own business, Eboné Bell has directly witnessed that leadership doesn’t always demand the traditionally taught skills and qualifications. Her firsthand experience highlights the truth that every one of us holds the potential to be intentional leaders. Through conversation and real-world examples, Eboné will share the key traits of intentional leadership, while focusing on important aspects such as uncovering and overcoming fear and recognizing the value of authenticity in leadership.

This program is designed to empower participants to enhance their knowledge and skills needed to embrace intentional leadership and positively impact their community. But most importantly, it serves as a reminder that intentional leadership extends beyond individual efforts and encompasses the collective leadership of all. It acknowledges that while leadership begins from within, it is not solely about “me” but rather about the leadership of “we.” Because when WE level up, we all feel empowered.

Thrown Together Dinner Party at Mud Lake Studio

Mud Lake Studios is teaming up with chef Eva Berg to bring you the Thrown Together dinner series! Each dinner party will feature a luxurious 3-course meal, dreamed up and skillfully prepared by Eva, and served up on custom 4-piece place settings by Mud Lake members. Each setting will be beautiful and unique and yours to take home, washed and dried, at the end of the night.

For our inaugural candlelit dinner, we will be hosting outdoors under the hawthorn trees on the charming patio of our Old Ironworks neighbor, Cafè des Chutes*. This will be a family-style meal, so come with friends and family, or come and meet someone new. Your place setting will consist of one large plate, one smaller side plate, a bowl and a drinking vessel, all carefully designed and crafted by a local potter. The menu can be found on our website and Instagram!

The Beaver Den – Scientific Literacy Book Club

Each month we select a published research paper relating to beavers to read, critically evaluate, and discuss.

Beavers are fascinating animals with so many mechanisms of influencing the world. Closely examining primary literature will give us a deeper understanding of how their influences on other species and environmental processes are studied and established. Scientific writing can be impenetrable, but discussing a text together is a great way to enhance understanding and grow curiosity for the details that others notice.

November’s full moon is known as the Beaver Moon – because beavers have a final burst of energy to bolster their dams and food supplies before slowing down for the winter…. when wolves become more active! Let’s read about the outsized effect wolves have on lands they share with beaver via predation and the ensuing trophic cascades:

Gable, T. D., Johnson-Bice, S. M., Homkes, A. T., Windels, S. K., & Bump, J. K. (2020). Outsized effect of predation: Wolves alter wetland creation and recolonization by killing ecosystem engineers. Science Advances, 6(46), eabc5439.
